On Saturday, November 6, at 11:00 AM, Concerned Citizens for COVID Action will be holding a rally in front of Teachers Credit Union Place, location of the Saskatchewan Party Convention and Annual General Meeting. Our event will be followed by the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour’s rally at the same location. We will be gathering at 22nd Street East and Pacific Avenue.
We are a peaceful and respectful group with the goal of urging Premier Scott Moe and Health Minister Paul Merriman to take courageous action to mitigate the spread of COVID and prevent deaths in the province of Saskatchewan. We are calling for 45 Saskatchewan Party MLAs to serve and protect their constituents by urging action by their Leader.
With October’s record number of COVID deaths and a fifth wave looming, the recommendations of 21 provincial Medical Health Officers must not go unheeded (MHO position statement October 21, 2021). The healthcare crisis and the collateral damage caused by the cancellation of services were predicted by modelling data and were preventable. The privatization of healthcare services to address resulting backlogs is unacceptable.
WE SUPPORT
- Gathering restrictions for a 28-day period with clear public messaging and enforcement (although our rally appears counter-intuitive to this – we are masked, double vaccinated and physically distancing – we must be the vocal majority)
- Proof of vaccination (without the negative test loophole) expanded to more venues/locations, required for youth sports/extracurricular activities, required for accessing in-person learning for children 12 years and required for teachers and staff in schools and early learning/childcare homes and centers
- Immediately addressing low vaccination rates in targeted age cohorts and communities with low updates with outreach strategies, staffing and funding
- Mandating and providing necessary resources to Public Health for TTI – Testing, Tracing and Isolating – of all COVID positive cases and their confirmed contacts during period of established communicability
WHY?
- We love and want to protect our children under the age of 12 years.
- We care about our vulnerable citizens – no one should have to suffer with COVID infection, deal with possible long-term consequences of the disease or be a risk of losing their life.
- We want to support all our frontline workers – healthcare, food distribution, and retail.
